I specialise in an improvised and spontaneous
style of performance which I call
Theatre of the
Fool.
This has a special focus on exciting chorus work, in which individuals
within an ensemble follow, lead, listen and adapt.
A play is created as if from ‘nothing’, a story unfolding
in deeply emotive detail.

Fooling is about creativity itself, because it is about being free
enough to play with possibilities. The person is liberated from the
concept of 'getting it wrong'.
It is permission to innovate, license to fool.
It applies to more than the art of performance but to any discipline
where more creativity and playfulness would be of benefit.
It provides a safe, supportive environment for the individual’s
self-confidence to be found and trusted.
It is an opportunity to develop self-motivation, communication and
self-assessment. |

|
Working with how we locate and develop the physical,
technical and psychological tools needed to create theatre- and /or
film-based performance work, I encourage and support participants to
have a personal relationship with the parts they play and the shapes
they create.
So far, amongst other things, this style of working has been applied
to helping young people find integration in a school setting, facilitating
eco-workshops and community building. |

What is the Curiosity Engine?
Imagine a machine that can be set to explore
any enquiry you might have about anything:
a self-sustaining process which is powered by curiosity.
Now imagine that you are an integral part
of this synergetic creation; that your ideas and impulses, no matter
how outlandish, are always relevant and always accepted.
Imagine being inside a question
and being able to change shape to become the solution. |

|
The workshops explore how cultural language
(colloquialisms) can become physical, either by embodying a phrase,
such as Buried Treasure, or by literally making an object/prop out of
the language itself. For example, how would you make a pair of Clever
Clogs, and how would they affect you? What does a Thinking Cap look
like?
